Most of downtown consists of high-injury corridors. We need to commit to a serious and purposeful reduction of car use in the NE quadrant: aggressively reserve ample and well-designed spaces for pedestrians, Muni and bicycles, repurpose curb space and impose vehicle restrictions.

We tend to beat around the bush: even projects that are supposed to be about transit get described in terms of, e.g., parking spots preserved. But we should be more blunt: except for commercial, etc. trips where a vehicle is absolutely required, your car is not welcome downtown.

It shouldn't take death after death after death for every tiny incremental improvement to be put into place. You are sitting on decades of unimplemented plans while you fret about how many parking spaces a human life is worth.

I appreciate these words, but on the ground I think you'll see that citizens are not getting this level of urgency from the board of supervisors (who protect parking and traffic flow), nor the MTA/DPW, who dither and water down proposed solutions. We should call this an epidemic.

Mayor Breed: here's a request I made back in March for simple safety improvements on a high injury corridor. I have gotten *nothing*. Follow along with my checking in every few months.https://twitter.com/shanand/status/1103119948635725824 …

Heart is still heavy from this AM. Sad and unfortunate incidents like these, always makes me reflect on my decision to ride a bike on our streets. I will continue to do my part to show up at City Hall, contribute ideas, and bring my passion to help S.F. create safer streets.

I saw this on ABC 7 news this morning. I am now following

@VisionZeroSF is a mouthpiece for the very limited measures by the SFMTA. I'd suggest you follow@walksf and@sfbike too, who are taking a considerably more ambitious look at this issue. - 1 more reply
