The tragedy today on Howard Street is heartbreaking and my thoughts are with the victim’s family and friends. This is yet another example of why our streets need to be made safer for all users.

Use more pilots. Stop the requirement for extensive outreach, approvals and studies before implementing safety infrastructure, particularly if it only involves parking removal.
-
Our safety should not be held hostage to the convenience of people to store their private property on public rights of way.

After a pedestrian fatality in 2017
@oakdot designed & installed this quick-fix road diet & crossing upgrade in under 3 months.@sfmta_muni is even better staffed & funded, I challenge them to one-up this timeline.https://twitter.com/oakdot/status/917864953624666112 …

We can and should make *immediate* safety improvements and do necessary outreach after. NO COMPROMISES on parking/private car access for safety. Beyond Howard: Folsom, Embarcadero, Market, Polk, Valencia, Townsend, 2nd, Oak/Fell, etc. are ALL disasters.

Why not initiate some serious large scale efforts of your own to get people out of their cars and onto bikes, scooters, transit, etc.? Why not help us get safety infrastructure built in our neighborhoods to protect us from the cars short cutting through small streets?

1) She had a helmet on and 2) guess what? It doesn’t save anyone from being run over by a box truck. This helmet crusade you’re on is so incredibly misguided and misinformed.

in the short term: more enforcement! I have never seen anyone get pulled over for any traffic violations on city streets in 17 yrs. long term: fix muni, congestion pricing, cap uber/lyft, protected network of bike lanes
