The tragedy today on Howard Street is heartbreaking and my thoughts are with the victim’s family and friends. This is yet another example of why our streets need to be made safer for all users.

Mayor, we see pushback on pretty much all bike (and many ped) safety projects because they "take away parking". I hope she will not have died in vain, and that never again will car storage take priority over actual human lives.

A good start would be to instruct SFMTA to stop watering down bike lane projects because of concerns over parking or car lanes, which they did twice in the past two weeks. They also did it on 6th Street last year, right around the corner from this tragedy https://sf.streetsblog.org/2018/06/21/sfmta-cuts-bike-lane-from-planned-sixth-street-safety-improvements/ …pic.twitter.com/GKNXhW3As1

Direct the SFMTA to remove car parking on the north side of Howard and replace with soft-hit posts as a pilot project. We cannot wait for years before this street is made safer.

Thank you for pushing for these changes. How many miles of protected bike lanes will be built in San Francisco this year?

It shouldn't be a "long term improvement" to install protected bike lanes on Howard Street from South Van Ness to Embarcadero. This could happen in one month. What are you waiting for? More people to be killed?

Why do the buses unload into the bike lanes on Townsend? It’s a cluster all around. RIP lady. It’s sad to live in a city full of ghost bikes.

Thank you for your push for quick improvements. But please also ensure larger improvements are made systematically. The Dutch practice proactive “systematic safety” based on objective traffic measures, which SF should make into city policy with teeth https://youtu.be/5aNtsWvNYKE

@sfmta_muni needs to make it top priority to protect all bike lanes and all intersections through which these run. It's absurd that#TransitFirst and#VisionZero are so hollow that we have to spend years fighting every damn bikeshare station let alone get protected bike lanes.Thanks.
