If we want to see real change for our homeless residents, we need more shelter beds - which are often the first step in helping someone off the streets. This 84-bed center, with 20 beds just for women, brings us closer to my goal of 1,000 new beds by 2020.https://www.sfchronicle.com/bayarea/article/SF-opens-its-newest-Navigation-Center-Wednesday-13518892.php …

Will there be a long term/more permanent solution?

Yes! The next step is ensuring that we have the housing and services to continue their path out of homelessness. We have a great opportunity to do so with the $181 million windfall we recently learned is available to the City:https://medium.com/@LondonBreed/making-a-difference-on-homelessness-and-affordable-housing-22fc8577706f …

Thank you for the updates - always helps us residents learn about what is being done. Question, why only 1,000? Are there limitations on property in SOMA or Tenderloin to be able to flip into shelters?

Good question. Yes, securing locations is always difficult, but 1,000 beds is the biggest expansion in San Francisco in 30 years. The idea is the nightly wait-list for shelter is ~1,000 people per night - this would help ensure that we have enough beds for people that want one.

First step is making sleeping / defecating in public illegal. Once booked transition to shelters / mental health facility. We are getting impatient and want our beautiful city back. Please write & enforce the law so we don’t have to put our health at risk any longer.

Would SF receive the same amount of $ to spend on “fighting homelessness” if people were removed from the streets immediately? My guess is no... Makes you wonder - what’s controllable, and do we want to live in a city where profit is prioritized over quality of life for workers

84 is a start and it’s great to see movement. 1,000 beds in 2 years though? At that rate would it not take over 10 years to deal with just the current homeless?

If you’d supported @OurHomeSF, we would already have funding for that goal.

Still not enough! As a 9 year resident of SF I’m appalled at what I see and have grown tired of the lack of resources. You need to get radical to get this issue addressed and helping these folks off the streets.
