That’s just half the problem. Businesses also need to be able to open their doors every morning without having to evict a homeless person camping on their doorway. @SF_Chamber @pic.twitter.com/8w2Lij2GTi

Anyone with eyes knows that homeless and drug addicted people are the main reason businesses are leaving — and customers avoid — the mid market and other areas of the City.
Good. First, how about we stop giving tax breaks to big businesses that don’t need them. Then tax property owners with vacant store fronts and establish rent control for small business. A vibrant, diverse economy in SF requires throttling the rentier class.
Tax breaks to small business instead?
Yes there are lots of vacant store fronts. I would advice looking at working class, SF born/raised citizens who want to continue and grow their businesses in the city they love. Offer reasonable rent packages. We must bring the cost down. Thank you
"The programs won’t include new taxes on landlords who keep spaces vacant," said Joaquin Torres @JoaquinTorresSF —landlords are the ones who evicted longtime businesses by raising rents. They have zero incentive to offer things at reasonable rates until they face a tax.
Remember that landlords are businesses to (speaking as a commercial tenant). It’s not the city’s place to tell business what to do and it’s not a one size fits all solution. How about incentives to small biz rather than punishing other biz?
But not hard for large tech giants! They seem to get their permits without too much hassle and don’t have to jump through the hoops other smaller companies do. I wonder if $$$s has something to do with that!!
Kudos Mayor Breed! Excited to see your leadership on the ever growing vacant storefront problem. You're empowering an exciting world of startups and creative groups working towards activating these excess capacities.https://medium.com/opportunity-in-excess-capacity/excess-capacity-in-the-forgotten-storefronts-5baa7e685f95 …
