    London Breed Retweeted Thomas Fuller

To be clear, we are talking about folks suffering from severe mental health and drug addiction issues, who would qualify for conservatorship under SB 1045. These individuals need intensive supportive services in addition to stable housing.https://twitter.com/thomasfullerNYT/status/1049369373985497088 …

    London Breed added,

    Thomas Fuller @thomasfullerNYT
We followed Mayor London Breed on walk through neighborhood. “People think you can basically take someone off the streets who is struggling with mental illness and addiction and all of a sudden put them in a unit and pay their rent,” she said (cont.) pic.twitter.com/uWG0cgCxuL

Or sent back to from where they come! Compassion isn’t supposed to be stupid. 1045 is the right track, but we aren’t responsible for everyone. This is a regional, state, and federal issue. @AaronPeskin @Scott_Wiener @TheMarinaTimes @JeffKositsky @SF_HSH @hknightsf @SF_DPH

I’d support #PropC if it funded one way tickets back. Many addicts have families somewhere, and with support, they have a better chance for recovery or mere survival.

Without an adequate number of shelter beds, the city is helpless on tents and encampments (if only our elected officials had seen this coming)https://www.sfchronicle.com/bayarea/matier-ross/article/SF-prosecutors-halt-enforcement-of-street-camping-13288604.php …

For every homeless/street-living person there’s a unique story for each individual and why they are where they are where they are. Reality: unless you’re rich, the city is a challenge to live even if you have housing. Homeless seeking help and support is good they cant afford SF.

Propagating the “mental health and substance abuse” stereotype is part of the problem. Housing that meets the needs of individuals is the solution. Blaming the victims of broken systems is played out.

Walk down Hyde street and please reevaluate your "mental health and substance abuse stereotype" comment. Bring your kids along and let us know how it goes.

No one is claiming these people don’t need intensive support services, though. People are upset because the NYT didn’t interview a single one of them for this feature. There’s no good excuse for that.
