We have a powerful, 21st century economy that is driving the financial engine of the state and even the nation, but that same boom is creating disparity that threatens to make us a city of haves and have-nots. Here are a few of my priorities as Mayor:

At the root of so many of our issues is our housing crisis. Our unending systems of laws seems designed as if to say NO to creating more homes, and we've seen the results. It’s time to say YES to more affordable housing, more middle income housing, and more market rate housing.

Public safety must improve. I know what it’s like to grow up around drugs and violence. We need more police officers to address the rash of property crimes and unsafe behavior, while implementing needed reforms to improve the relationship between police and communities of color.

As a SFUSD graduate, I’m committed to building more teacher housing, prioritizing neighborhood schools, and creating opportunities for paid internships and job training. We’ll tell the President that in SF we don’t put children in cages; we put them in classrooms!

We have so much to do: re-envision our transportation system to make biking safer and improve Muni, invest in our parks, rebuild the seawall, reform our criminal justice system, support small business, and protect all our communities from what comes from Washington D.C.

I believe in the promise of San Francisco because I’ve lived it. My story may seem like the exception but we can make it the norm. I’m hopeful, I’m optimistic, I’m excited, and I’m looking forward to what we will achieve together.

I agree that we need to help our homeless population off of the street and into shelters. However, is the city prepared to build housing for the homeless? The city must do better and step up its fight and resolve to help house the homeless.

Check out
@SkinnerPm’s twitter feed. He’s PD in Savanna, GA. Spends a great deal of time talking about “near crime” and how community policing can prevent people from stepping off the precipice into homelessness.Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

Vegas has a formal Homeless Zone where tents are legal (cant be rousted by police there) and homeless charities/services are directed/operated.
