  1. The Delta variant is here and it’s spreading quickly among unvaccinated residents. We’re looking at ways to slow the spread and get more people vaccinated, but I want to be very clear that our schools can and must open in August.

Our sixth Street Crisis Response Team is launching today, which will now give us 24/7 coverage across the entire city. These teams have responded to over 2,000 calls so far for people in crisis, replacing what would otherwise be a police response.

Starting Wednesday, anyone hired by the City and County of San Francisco must be vaccinated for COVID before they can start their new job. This builds on our already announced requirement for existing employees.

This is a responsible decision by the SF Bar Owner Alliance that will help protect employees and customers. We need everyone to get vaccinated, especially as the Delta variant continues to spread. It's how we can keep our city and our residents safe.

The $11 million in grants we committed to our small businesses are going out the door! Yesterday we hand-delivered $10,000 grants to four cornerstone businesses in the Mission. So far, we've given out $4.5 million to almost 600 businesses.

San Francisco is requiring City employees to be vaccinated in order to protect the public health of our employees and the residents we serve. I applaud the businesses that are stepping up to do the same with their employees. We need widespread vaccinations to end this pandemic.

We need to respond with urgency to the addiction and mental health crises on our streets, which is why we're opening 400 new treatment beds. This year alone, we'll open 140 new beds. This will help our street outreach teams connect people with the care they need.

I'm glad to see the State continuing to work to address organized retail theft throughout California. We're working locally to disrupt these organized crime rings but they're not limited by city borders, and this collaboration is key to our success.

Creating more housing will make SF more affordable AND it's one of the most meaningful climate solutions we have at the local level. That's why our new climate targets have a goal to build at least 5,000 homes per year. Housing policy is climate policy.

The Delta variant is here and it's spreading faster than what we experienced in previous surges. If you’re not vaccinated, it is likely not a matter of if you will get it, but when, and how bad it will be when you do. We need everyone to get vaccinated today.

Since December, almost 1,800 people in San Francisco who were not vaccinated have been hospitalized with COVID-19. Do you know how many San Franciscans were hospitalized from COVID despite being vaccinated? Six. A total of six. The vaccines are safe and they're effective.
