One of my high school creative writing students wrote an autobiographical children’s story about a girl who is adopted & is teased for looking differently than her mom. Later, a student illustrated the story, & it was so beautiful that we all cried. I love being a teacher.

#BookTwitter, I’ve had recent success: releasing a book, publishing in lit mags, signing with an agent—but what Twitter does not show is how I spent a year not writing, not publishing—and embracing our “failures” needs to be just as important as celebrating our accomplishments.
