I feel like this is a genuinely debatable point, without being overly sympathetic to him. Whoever had gone second, it seems plausible to me that they would want to have avoided watching the other, to focus on a) what they were going to say and b) being in the right state of mind.
I do find it remarkable that Judge Kavanaugh did not watch Dr. Ford’s testimony.
