As a former Herald reporter, this story breaks my heart. . As the only person on my block (a city block) that subscribed to a daily newspaper, I find it hard to blame ‘greedy corporations’ for the demise of print journalism. OK, I REALLY like to, but it’s hard. .

I agree it’s not all about corporate profit. That’s where the amnesia comes in. We, as a country, as citizens, have forgotten why journalism is so important to society and how it can serve as a lynchpin of democracy.
