Years ago, at a birthday party, with no notebook in my purse I was forced to write on napkins when inspiration struck. Now I always carry a notebook, but I've also been know to use my evernote app for random notes.

Exactly. For me it's also names. First, last, good names for streets, towns or fictitious companies, etc.

Ditto. I always keep a notebook and generally about 5 ink pens in my tote bag. But I've written in crayon and on napkins before.
I do the same thing. Plus i have a notebook i keep at work for jotting down anything that strikes. Its amazing how much thinking your able to do when fixing cars.
Napkins were the standard go-to notepad for engineers at lunch when collaborating with peers.
