It’s striking how many of our experiences are seen as “endearing” by people who could step in and make a difference. And this is the exact problem: people think power and sexual harassment only exist in one dimension and one direction, and everything else is just boys being boys.

Or not so young female professors. Not that I'm old, but I'm scarcely young.

A student told me he loved me at the end of every class, and I pulled him aside and was like no. Apparently it was a dare, but i was so uncomfortable

YIKES, I’m sorry!

I have had to explain to male students that they cannot walk me to my next location after class. This was not a student who wanted to come to office hours -just to walk with me & chat me up each day.

I had one like this who would hang around while I talked to other students and then follow me to my next class/office. I finally started hiding in the lady's room to get away from him.

I had a student who asked me out for drinks after every class when I was a grad student teacher (there was only a 3 year age difference so he didn’t see the problem). I finally had to have the chair of the department step in.
-
I’m glad you had a chair you could go to!
