Incase no one told you: you aren’t here to live, work, endlessly seek validation, and to be approved of by everyone. The more authentic you are, the less approval you’ll get. Have the courage to not be for everyone and watch how much better life gets.

There’s no such thing as a dumb question, unless it’s mine, in which case I should’ve come out of the womb knowing the answer

Update on this - we’ve raised $780 towards our goal of $2,500 so far!! There’s still 17 days left to donate. Let’s run it up and support these ambitious, black law students this Black History Month! ♥️🖤💚

Hi Twitter fam, my school’s Black Law Student Association is hoping to give out 1-2 grants to support our black future lawyers, judges, and policy makers! If you’re looking for a good cause to donate to this Black History Month, please consider us ♥️ inspire.depaul.edu/project/34332

Oh man I feel this. The best pass for a nit or typo though remains the pass after it’s sent.

Devastated to confirm that my legal writing prof’s advice from 1L, “different passes for different purposes,” really is good advice in practice. The more focused I am on drafting new language, the less likely I am to catch small nits. Doing another pass for the nits matters

My friendship is a gift, not a commodity that is owed. I love meeting new people, *and* I reserve the right to say no when lines get crossed. If that simple no “breaks” someone, I wish them healing. But it’s not my responsibility.

Toxic people will focus on your boundaries instead of their disrespect in order to play the victim and make you the aggressive villain in their story. Remember, they are aggressive when they try to cross your boundaries, you are assertive when you enforce your boundaries.

“But can’t you just read your tweets more closely to make sure there are no typos” as I’ve said before, I did not come to this app to do what I do for a living

If there’s a stray letter or punctuation mark in my tweets that looks weird, respect the dead and ignore it. They’re relics of the tweets I tried to write before getting stymied by character limits

I was in therapy, on psychiatric medication, and had been hospitalized due to mental illness while in law school & passed c&f without providing any additional docs/having to explain myself. Get the help you need. It's worth it!

If people say negative things/spread rumors about you out of jealousy or spite, own it. Same thing happened to Taylor Swift. It inspired a whole album and world tour. You’re basically famous now

To be quite honest, I probably just…wouldn’t take evidence, if that guy were the only option. I’m corporate though, so, I imagine it might be different for aspiring litigators unfortunately

Imagine being a law student, being told you absolutely must take evidence, & having to be like “welp, guess I’m spending a semester w the guy who cussed his students out & told them they assumed the risk of him speaking too fast”

You do not have to twist yourself into unlivable knots to make it so that everything you do in law school is perfect & inoffensive to everyone, even the people you would never want to work or interact w anyway. You can be your whole self, some people won’t like it, and that’s ok

This profession is small, sure. Be nice to people, don’t be an asshole. But you should by no means be lying awake at night thinking that some stupid rumor someone started about you out of competitive jealousy will render you a pariah at OCI.

My ~hot take~ of the day is that the “your law school rep will define the rest of your career” rhetoric has gone, way too far. I know law students who are paralyzed with fear thinking messing up a cold call or disagreeing w a classmate will tank their future. This is not the case

I am once again amplifying the fact that I was in therapy during law school and sailed through character and fitness in both NYC and CT with no issue. Please please please get the help you need. It was essential to my law school well-being and I haven’t regretted it for a second
