    Based on differing toes in front and back legs, and location, I am gonna guess it is the lesser capybara (Hydrochoerus isthmius)

    Was kinda thinking beaver, actually, because some of those front tracks look four-toed. It seems possible that if the mud is deep and squelchy, it could press two toes together into a single impression.

    Thank you for asking such a good question!! You NEVER stop being part of the larger group you are in. That doesn't mean you don't become your own special category within the group. Bats and whales are still mammals, even though they are both really transformed.
