Pres Trump leaves without taking any Qs. My Qs not addressed in his speech: -Do you plan to still ask foreign govts to investigate Bidens or Dems? -Have you learned lessons from impeachment as Collins says? -Will you seek some sort of revenge? -Regret saying TBIs were headaches?

Rep Mark Meadows just stood up the East Room of the WH and said: “This (referencing crowd in the room) reflection today is a strong reflection of the support you have ... We’ve got your back.”

  3. “Ill-defined responsibilities in an unfamiliar setting” = Chief Justice Roberts’ summary of his situation presiding over impeachment. And also a good phrase for anyone to keep in their back pocket at all times.

  4. Major update - Romney split his votes. He was "guilty" on abuse of power and "not guilty" on obstruction of Congress.

  6. SENATE ACQUITS PRESIDENT of first article of impeachment - abuse of power. was only one to break w party - voting to convict. He stood, said “guilty” and sat back down with little expression, except that of gravity.

  7. Reminder: still true that press cannot convey news from inside Senate chamber in real time. Still bananas in a country, and in a building. where leaders profess to cherish voters' free thought, a free press and the free flow of information.

  8. BREAKING: MANCHIN is voting to convict the president, remove him from office on both counts. Means Romney is likely the only senator to vote against party. Amazing. (Unless there is a BIG surprise. But doubtful.)

  9. Romney: I wanted to hear from Bolton thinking he could potentially *help* the president's case, and add reasonable doubt.

  10. THIS. Romney says what the president did was a flagrant assault on our fundamental values. Said the idea of "standing with the team" has been on his mind. That he supports much of what the president has done. But his faith and oath to God demands he be true to his conscience.

  11. !!!BREAKING: Romney believes the president should be removed for abuse of power - that his acts rise to a "high crime or misdemeanor".

  12. ROMNEY: Says he believes that a president can commit impeachable acts that are not statutory crimes. Also that it's hard to explain the president's insistence on investigating the Bidens as anything other than "a political pursuit".

  13. BREAKING: Sen. Doug Jones, *D*-AL, will vote to convict President Trump on abuse of power AND obstruction. - Sd key evidence to him was president's statement that he could do anything he wanted under Article II. - Jones is in one of the toughest races for Sen Dems this year.

  14. NOW: Sen. Doug Jones, D-AL, voice seeming to hold emotion, tells Senate, "I fear moral courage - to put country above party - is rare these days."

  15. My personal hero of this SOTU has been Amy Williams, the mom of two small kids sitting next to Melania (her huband is deployed). Not only is she a military spouse like my mom, she has MAD parenting skills to keep her three- and six-year-olds totally calm this whole time.

A man shouts from the gallery about "victims of gun violence like my daughter." He shouted it while Republicans were applauding, so most people didn't really hear it, but Capitol Police have removed the man from the chamber.
