Im from Aberfan i must say today has been most heartbreaking day, ive cried a million tears and was gut wrenching to watch :(

I agree. Our history lessons should be about the British isles. I was taught about American history, which I didn’t understand b/c I don’t live there but taught nothing about wales, Scotland or Ireland/northern Ireland.

it’s valuable to learn international history but yes, didn’t come across Irish history until my final year of undergrad! I studied history to A Level and only once, a GCSE module on popular protest, was social history introduced. Yet, countless Tudor and Victorian modules

I think, to be fair to news outlets across Wales, there was an tremendous amount of coverage and analysis of what happened at Aberfan, in the months around the 50th anniversary of the tragedy.

Of course! My point, not well made, was that the power of Netflix will mean this heartbreaking tale of injustice will be told across the globe. Although one has to question why social or working class history isn’t taught in schools...

It’s not forgotten. As a foreigner in this country I have always been aware of this heartbreaking disaster - if one reads widely anyone will know its country’s history as the info is out there, as it is through commemorative programmes on tv!

I think most people of a certain age in the U.K. will know about this tragedy, I certainly do and I wasn't taught it in school that I can remember. It was just something we knew and heard about.
