I hope (but have my doubts) that Pentagon planners are giving President Trump a wide range of options that would punish Iran and restore deterrence. There are steps between being weak and total war.

We did lose deterrence when Trump and the GOP pulled us out of the treaty that limited Iran's nuclear program. If there is a nuclear arms race in the Middle East the American people (and the world's people) will hold the Republicans responsible.
