Let's be clear. Eli Lilly should apologize for increasing the price of insulin by over 1,200% since 1996 to $275 while it costs less than $10 to manufacture. The inventors of insulin sold their patents in 1923 for $1 to save lives, not to make Eli Lilly's CEO obscenely rich.

For three elections in a row now, young voters have helped carry Democrats across the line - getting a blue wave in 2018, getting Biden elected in 2020, & preventing a red wave in 2022. Can folks now retire the lazy, snarky, 'why don't young people turnout?' stuff? Or no?

I think it might if people understood just how helpful masking can be for liberating hospital beds in Canada and preventing COVID deaths. If 80% of us mask (as we did this time last year) by Feb 3 we could liberate 54,000 hospital beds and prevent 4,000 deaths 🧵

Where IS the urgency ? The horror of having hospitals at 185% capacity looks like this⤵️ (For the uninitiated that means for every staffed hospital bed there are almost two patients- they're stacked in hallways & emerg- & staffing was already not enough for one.)

I am on Instagram sharing news and Twitter threads on the state of our pediatric hospitals in Canada this weekend, and am capturing story after story of families of medically complex children essentially being *politely* denied care. /1

No viable path left to 1.5C. From today’s White House briefing: “Under President Biden, oil and natural gas production has increased, and we are on track to hit the highest production in our country’s history next year.” Utterly tragic for the Earth and our future. Words fail.

The UK now has the worst health system in Europe. In 2011, the UK had the highest ranked health system in the world. It took them a decade to destroy our NHS.

Shocking. The Premier of Ontario has pre-emptively suspended the right to strike for public sector workers for up to five years. Solidarity with in their struggle for better pay and conditions in the face of such draconian legislation

"It seems heavy-handed, to say the least, to use this “nuclear option” against a group of lowly paid workers, with an average annual income of $39,000, many of whom are single mothers with children and are living below the poverty line" 💯 👇

People should be livid about the Ford government using the notwithstanding clause. This allows a government to override the constitution - allowing them to do something that otherwise would be illegal. The clause has been used 7 times outside of Quebec. 3 by Ford. 1/4

Canadian Civil Liberties Association: "The notwithstanding clause was never meant to be used in contract negotiations, or as a casual tool to disrupt basic human rights safeguarded in our Charter. This misuse, and the flagrant disregard for individual rights is wrong"

We will let you know when the CRITICAL CARE BED ALERT has been lifted.״ Take a moment to think through the implications of Toronto's largest teaching hospital saying, in effect, don't send patients to the ER if they're super sick, and they're gonna crash and need critical care.

"As of 10:00 hours, the Toronto General Hospital is under CRITICAL CARE BED ALERT. This means that CVICU, CICU, & MSICU are at their total bed capacity and/or have limited human resources to safely keep all physical critical care beds open and in operation. Required Actions:

The Ontario government recently gave 43 of their MPPs a $16,000 raise, bringing their salary to $132,500/year. So why are they refusing to provide a decent wage to Ontario’s lowest paid education workers, who make $39,000/year & are just asking for a $3.25/hour raise to survive?
