Today caucus-goers in Iowa woke up to more than a dozen kids in cages all over the city of Des Moines. We came to remind people that this remains a reality & that the issue cannot be pushed under the rug. 🚨 this is a humanitarian crisis.🚨

Can you please sign this petition to stop the government from deporting black British citizens to Jamaica. More planned deportations are due next month. I would be really grateful if you could RT too. Thank you 🙏🏽

Really enjoyed this collection from and - characters on the frayed edges of Florida noir, golden-age cinema, punk, crumbling New York housing projects and picture-postcard college towns. Beautiful, compact character studies of people in flux.

Mostly I just want people to stop with the threat of history caring. People make history. Actions make history. Those in power, who are often oppressors, write the history they want. But history isn't a person who's going to do something. We are.

‘Delving into their most recent work, & , Okojie & Kandasamy will discuss the fusion of the everyday with elements of the supernatural in their fictions...’ Sounds great. See you there?

when i was in my early 20s i was convinced that no one would care about my writing until I was 30, and then I looked at the people getting staff positions and was shocked by how young they were. I was taught to be humble and that doesn’t seem feasible financially anymore, lol

The only thing particularly unique about America’s illiberal turn is just how long so many desperately clung to the myth of its exceptionalism. They clung to it, one assumes, bc they could not face up to the depth of the darkness before them. There is no looking away now though.

“When we hear personal stories about women, critics describe the work as ‘confessional’. But when our male colleagues do exactly the same work, they’re called essayists. They’re afforded the privilege of the assumption that there is a craft to writing about their own experience.”
