I love when people use "Try hard" as an insult against someone they just lost to. Thanks for noticing that I'm putting in effort.

It's very simple. When you lose against someone it's a simple defense mechanism. "He had to try this hard to beat me, when i'm not even trying. What a loser." etc.

I've been called that so many times in Overwatch in quick play when I pop off. One time this guy randomly in chat says after one fight, "Smells like try hards reported," and left the game. The rest of us including the enemy team turned it into such a meme the rest of the game.
