Adding arcane explosion back for frost and fire and having it actually cost a decent bit of Mana and do good damage is by far my favorite change for mage in shadowlands. It might need seem like it, but this is a huge deal. Let me explain:

The lack of a meaningful use for Mana was something I got used to, that was until classic released. In classic Mana actually feels like the source of all your damage. It has weight because of this and there are some great things about this design.

There are a lot of HUGE problems with how mage worked in classic but one thing I think they got right was how you could spend more Mana for more damage in a pinch, kind of like how a healer can use inefficient heals to slam someone who is taking a lot of damage.

So coming back to my initial point, why is the shadowlands design for arcane explosion fantastic? Well in short the ability does a lot of up front damage, to the point where it is competitive with the normal aoe routines, but also has some severe limitations.

That limitation is that the spell costs 10k Mana per cast. Having the spell be the best way to blast targets with burst damage but having it cost a ton of Mana is the EXACT kind of design I love to see lifted from classic.

Mana now has a weight to it again for fire and frost, and having arcane explosion as a tool in our toolbox honestly feels fantastic (especially its interactions with combustion and other CDs). HUGE kudos to
@WarcraftDevs for this design. I hope to see explosion stay this way.Pokaż ten wątek
