    Very much worth a look. UK politics is broken and needs a fresh impulse of non-political politics: of reason, moderation, progressive values, and commitment to the EU. First-past-the-post makes it tough for new parties and third parties: that has to change.

    My mentor Roy Jenkins resigned as Labour's Deputy Leader when Wilson agreed Tony Benn's demand for a referendum on Europe. 'I don't regret it,' he told me. 'If the vote had been lost, Parliament wd have been infantilised & a massive crisis would have followed.' How right he was!

    I was raised in a 2 bed terrace in the poorest district in England, my dad was a mechanic, and I wore hand-me-downs until I started earning my own money aged 15. But because I didn't vote to ruin the economy and shun foreigners, I'm an elitist snob.
