Facing a New York winter (not my usual!), I walked into stores to purchase a proper parka. Hah. No go. Next time, I'll carry a sign:"PETITE WOMEN AREN'T SHORT MEN." Is there some math behind why it's still so hard to design for a wider range of people? Are short women that rare?

I can't even mount most bikes despite being of average height. I can't reach the pedals properly!!!

this is such a huge impediment - I'm guessing stopping/dismounting easily and quickly becomes an issue, and the whole experience feels less safe/fun?
if you have longer-than-avg torso/ shorter-than-avg legs (so avg height but proportionally unusually)... - Show replies

Do you have recommendations for bicycle brands for short women?

Search if your city has a bike co-op. They helped me with my bike fitting. Bike shops should also have bike fittings. Both should be able to adjust a bike, and co-ops often do custom builds.
