This could be revolutionary (if I understood the abstract correctly). If we can "mess" with synapses in local circuits, then we could start probing where the hell long-term memories are maintained. If I do this in the lateral PFC can I get an animal to forget the rules of a task?

Beautiful, simple and elegant. Lateral PFC reflects and predicts conscious content in the absence of motor reports. Also, a clear example of why we should be careful about the interpretation of fMRI results (as well as why we need more single neuron work)

I’m very happy to post my first about a new manuscript we’ve just put on : This is work by Ben Cowley, part of his thesis jointly with Byron Yu’s group and my own (Ben is now a postdoc with ). /1

Monkeys raised without exposure to faces don't develop a domain on their cortex that respond specifically to faces (like normal monkeys)! Visual areas are otherwise normal

I've never written a review article. Question for those of you that have: do you write it first and then fish for a journal? Do you sell the idea to an editor and then write it? Do you wait for an invitation? Do you randomly mention it to an editor at a meeting? Any of the above?

I fully endorse. Maybe I'm a defeatist, but I feel like all sensible changes to social institutions (like the profession of doing science) will not happen unless there's a revolution of some kind. I just don't see that happening in science within our lifetime.

It is that time of the week for Tweeter Journal Club!!! Today we discuss “Time-invariant working memory representations in the presence of code-morphing in the lateral prefrontal cortex” by Aishwarya et al. (1/10)

By the way, , all these methods are still constrained presumably by the complexities of the task right? If a network has a high-dimensional manifold, but the animal is not engaged in a task, wouldn't the intrinsic dimensionality be underestimated?

Great summary of cool new methods to identify structures in large-scale neural data. Now I want to try them all in our PFC data.

I've just released a fairly lengthy paper on defining & measuring intelligence, as well as a new AI evaluation dataset, the "Abstraction and Reasoning Corpus". I've been working on this for the past 2 years, on & off. Paper: ARC:
