If ever there was a politically designed hatchet job masquerading as research this is it! Thanks for deconstructing this fiction weighted “VPD report”

.@VancouverPD tomorrow will release a report it commissioned into spending on city's social safety net - a summary of which leaked this week. I've read both now, and let me summarize them for you: Misleading fiction. My latest @TheOrcaBC @Glacier_Media biv.com/article/2022/1

It’s absurd and irresponsible keep repeating this “$5 Billion spent in Vancouver” line when that number has very credibly been shown to include: 💰 Old Age Security, childcare benefits, and other federal traders. 💰Funds spent across the province.

I have questions about accuracy of this dog whistle. Efficiency and auditing on social safety spending over COVID response (and every year) is necessary. But this VPD-leaked 'report' by a for-profit corporation that lists and sells social service data doesn't pass the sniff test

$5.1 billion was spent on Vancouver’s social safety net in 2020, according to the confidential report commissioned by Vancouver police. This equates to about $7,200 per Vancouver resident. trib.al/m4WbOpa

How about Liberals and Conservatives cancel their $8.5 billion handout to Big Oil Barrons and impose a windfall tax on war profiteers?

My brother just had his last glass of water in prison. Please keep his story alive, it's not over. He can be saved. This afternoon I'm flying to Sharm, I have a civil society pass. The Egyptian regime claims civic space exists in #COP27 , I'll be testing that. #FreeAlaa

if you actually want to address the stigma associated with illicit drug use, you must replace the entire illicit drug supply with regulated substances accessible to all, outside of a medical context this is committee chair speaking Tuesday. leg.bc.ca/documents-data

Fighting antisemitism is a must. But IHRA has a clear track record of silencing Palestinians & human rights activists. Even in Winnipeg. We hope that will take a clear position in favour of freedom of expression, Palestinian freedom, and against IHRA. #NoIHRA

When you (Israel) hold a whole nation (Palestine) captive; steal its land & resources; engage in ethnic cleansing, extra-judicial executions, home demolitions & settler terrorism you can neither claim self defense nor seek “security “ through more criminality. Let that sink in.

I’m grateful to MPs who unanimously passed my motion recognizing residential schools as an act of genocide. This is an important step for truth & reconciliation. Now the government must honour the will of parliament and formally recognize residential schools as a genocide.
