The Lords has just passed amendments to the Domestic Abuse Bill, following Lib Dem amendments at Committee, that introduce an automatic ban on the direct cross-examination of witnesses in person in certain civil cases.
The amendments also ensure the availability of special protections for witnesses and parties in those civil cases. These changes will make a huge difference for survivors of domestic abuse, for whom the experience of court proceedings can be incredibly distressing.
