No seriously whenever I see people use the damn Harry Potter metaphor like coding is magic and Silicon Valley is Hogwarts and shit I become a very angry Muggle I'm not any House, I'm fucking Dudley Dursley, that's my Harry Potter character, I hate magic and I punch people

Coding is 100% magic tho. You sit in a dark room in front of a glowing altar arranging mystic runes in precise patterns to harness intangible forces to your specific will. Slight mistakes usually just cause the magic to fail, but can potentially instead result in catastrophe.

And, much like Harry Potter magic, people who can do it are inordinately proud of themselves even though it does very little against a Muggle with a gun

I mean, in fact Harry Potter magic isn't really at all like coding. The words are arbitrary and make no sense, and ultimately don't even have to be said, just thought, and lots of magic is shown happening without words, and only a certain group can do it, but they do it naturally

D&D magic is much closer, anyone can learn, it's just a matter of getting it all right, not reaching too far, being precise etc.
