Heads up for folks in the USA; If you're not having a food emergency, please don't go to the grocery store on April 1st and 2nd. Wait until the 3rd. People who are on food stamps get their accounts recharged on the first of the month, and have likely been running on fumes.
The last week of any given month for anyone on SSI, SSDI, WIC, and/or food stamps is always rough. The amount paid helps a lot, but it's usually not enough for the whole month. We're used to tightening our belts. Please, give us poor and vulnerable first grocery dibs if you can.
I've been informed that the day that food stamps refill can vary depending on your state -- just to be safe, you might want to check. Even better, ask someone you know who is or has been down on their luck. Check in with them. Make sure they've got supplies, aye?
Holy crow this blew up. Um. |D; Okay, so. I've since learned that benefits are often staggered in distribution -- I was writing this last night from personal experience and in a bit of a panic. Still, check in with your poorer friends and relatives, aye?

This... isn't true? I've been on SNAP in MA and PA and on both of them they intentionally stagger the refill dates across accounts to prevent there being a rush of everyone getting their SNAP refill on the same day like this. Maybe some states do it on the 1st but none I know
Well, they seem to have a smart idea of it then. NY and VT, as far as I know, both do it on the 1st, or in two payments where one is on the first and the other is halfway through the month. ^^;
