As long as the gov is elected by ppl, the gov will be surely preparing poorly for upcoming wars. The reason is self explicit. Voters never allow their elected gov to invest heavily on military defense while dictatorship can do so in a very efficient & focused way.

The key is if attacked democratic governments can united, defend strongly, & have powerful manufacturing capabilities to fight back after defeated by the first wave of attack from enemies.

It’s actually really like WWII all over again. Democratic nations are always preparing poorly for upcoming war due to their systemic nature. Facing the uprising Nazi & Japan, collapse of France, Dunkirk & Pearl Harbor were not avoidable actually.

In this war on virus, we just experienced Dunkirk & Pearl Harbor, badly defeated. New York’s improvement is more like Midway. Globally we are still away from Stalingrad, but it will come. Once again US is becoming the manufacturing engine for allies.
