No, it depends on the region and which Chinese language is spoken. I grew up calling my maternal grandma as 阿嬤 in Teochew, or 外婆 when Cantonese is required. When taught written standard Chinese, it's also 外婆 for us.
Google translate doesn't know the world maternal grandmother 姥姥. It translates it into uncle 叔叔. Shouldn't 姥 be a fairly common word in Chinese? How could it get it wrong?
