A country of that size and massive population with a long history of aggression/bullying from other powers, it’s a perfectly natural development in having the very best possible economic/military to prevent a repeat and safeguard national interests.

Well said. If other countries, especially US(having bases surrounding China) and its allies, respect China and maintain peace, China will not be making any move.
