    2. Many Chinese who studied and worked in the U.S. love the country and the culture because it’s open, confident and transparent. I’m one of them. While the U.S. govt is correct in pushing China to level the playing field, it will be a pity if it becomes more closed in the processhttps://twitter.com/LiYuan6/status/1117777533418631168 …

    1. The Trump administration made the correct diagnosis of some of the issues in the US-China relations, but some of its prescriptions are wrong, incld revoking visas of some of the scholars in this ⁦@JanePerlez⁩ story & restricting STEM student visas https://www.nytimes.com/2019/04/14/world/asia/china-academics-fbi-visa-bans.html …

Actually US can do better by selectively targeting those family members of CCP high-ranking officials. Barring their sons/daugthers/wives/mistresses from entering US will send chills to the CCP spine rather quickly. And believe me, all Chinese will cheer for US doing this.

Canada should do the same to get the Huawei hostages freed.

The US becoming more closed to Communist China doesn’t necessarily mean the former cannot be more open to allies and friends. Pity - aka #reciprocity - to the Chinese who freeload the generosity of the US.

a greater role than saying it doesn't happen, holding a view of the pure academic that is incompatible with the reality of the Chinese academy, and risk letting others define the risk parameters and debate. You may not like this world, but this is the world you are dealing with.

Yes, it would be a great shame - it’s a very precarious situation let’s hope that all concerned are truly diligent in finding solutions. Tit for tat usually doesn’t end well for either party, no? CCPP are paranoid about the Uighur’s, the West is or should be paranoid about CCPP!

Agreed given USGov has long been benefited from foreign brains/migrants this is a fact & still is. Not sure abt the level playing field though given such a huge disparity between the GDP per capita of these 2 countries. Talk abt theft incl IP, biz-to-biz relationship is the key.
