Chinese tech entrepreneurs are rethinking their business trips and their American ties. They could instead be valuable allies in the drive to bring more freedom to China. If the United States isn’t careful, it could alienate the group. Latest from mehttps://nyti.ms/2G7zTpm

This is some real wishful thinking. Look around and it’s not just tech but business in general. They have been silent on rights and freedom and continue to do so. They don’t give a shit except to enrich themselves. JFC are you just willfully blind?

This is such a common trope especially when it comes to China. “Oh let’s not alienate” or “keep criticisms private and they will adjust.” What? They just want to get rich and won’t jeopardize anything to hinder that end. Who has? Who does?

So we should give up an independent judiciary to assuage Chinese tech leaders? For what, given that in the six years, as China techies have seemingly become ever more powerful, Chinese governance has become evermore centralized and authoritarian?

Primitive political system cannot acquire advanced technology. It abuses the power and eventually brings collective destruction. The US should reflect on this, why and how its original technologies was misused.

No, the notion of inculcating Chinese studying / doing business in the US with “western values” proved to be largely delusional. Many of these people just return to China to strengthen the system. The US shouldn’t be closed to them, but should be clear-eyed. cc: Ivy League

Your statement is a bit aggressive I hope in more co-operation and exchange, the only way to overcome tensions

LOL. Huawei has become the surveillance arm of the communist Chinese government. They have about as much to do with "more freedom" for Chinese people as Li Dongsheng.

I think they already chose sides. Chinese tech leaders are not bringing more openness to China, nor are they pushing for liberalisation or freedom. The only freedom they seek is mobility for themselves, to buy real estate and send their children to school abroad.

Nailed it, Drew. Who cares about politics or what the gov't does in China? It's all about the Benjamin's.. I mean Maojamin's.

Seems like a good time to revisit Huawei's involvement with the murder of potential whistleblower Shane Todd.
