Always makes me wonder why Hong Kong never developed in that region. City grew heavily, but here, where closeness to Shenzhen could be beneficial, it is not really used. Are there reasons for that?

Has been used as a buffer zone historically, not sure how relevant that still is, but also close by is an important nature reserve. I know which side I prefer (the green one). https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frontier_Closed_Area …
