Q8: We can still see the same landscapes that the Corps of Discovery witnessed. This is because of public lands protection efforts by local, state and federal entities. What has changed? What remains the same? #parkchatpic.twitter.com/2LfpJagdLT

A8 Thank heavens the NPS and some states have protected sites of interest. I'm sure many have been lost to development. #ParkChat

Thanks! In addition to the Missouri National Recreational River NPS also helps to preserve other sites along the trail including Knife River Indian Villages National Historic Site, Fort Union Trading Post NHS, @NezPerceNP, @FtVancouverNPS, and Lewis and Calrk NHP! #Parkchat

A8 For one, most of the rivers they traveled were wild, where now they are chained by dams. I suspect that only the fragments preserved in parks and wilderness would be remotely recognizable to the corps of discovery today. #ParkChat

The Missouri National Recreational River has two sections of river that remain in a relatively natural state - one place to see the MO River as Lewis and Clark would have seen it. #parkchat

A8. Standing on top of Spirit Mound in South Dakota in the same spot where Lewis & Clark stood, it’s possible to imagine them facing an endless prairie. #ParkChat

And feel what they felt too. They were looking for the "little devils" or "spirits" they heard could kill a man by shooting a tiny arrow at them. #parkchat Lewis and Clark went out of their way to walk all the way there to see what it was all about.

#ParkChat Lots of development along the trail now of course. Think of all of the dams, for example. Still plenty of wilderness though. Protected wilderness with is a change too.

Everyone should watch Patagonia’s Damnation documentary if you haven’t already. Eye opening. What are some other good ones related to our public lands for all of our Netflix subscribers out there? #ParkChat

#parkchat A8 like many of the other amazing trails west, you can't follow them uninterrupted for very far, but those places that have been preserved are still amazing to witness!

A8. Dams. Can't stand 'em. River killers. I know I won't be able to see the falls in Montana, but there will still be some open landscapes to see. Thank goodness our country had the foresight to save some places. #parkchat
