Doesn't that apply to most of the gaming communities tho
Smashers wonder why women aren't common in the community and then either treat them like garbage for being relevant in any context whatsoever or victim blame when they get assaulted and come out. Absolutely appalling that this still happens.

Yes but I've personally experienced this in smash so I can attest to it. But I have read about the horror stories from other communities like LoL.

I don't think its the people who question why women aren't common who are also treating them that way, but that is definitely a problem and I'm certain its preventing some women from joining. There are going to be women better at Smash (and other games) then other men.

I didn't mean to imply the smash community was a monolith but the people that question it shouldn't be surprised is more of what I mean.

Happens all over, even with sports and other activities. I think it just so happens that since this is [e]sports it gets a lot more internet coverage. That and the much younger average age of the community leads to a lot of stupidity.

Of course, is not a smash specific issue at all. That's the community I'm involved in and have been a personal victim in, however.
