RIP Ursula Le Guin. Here she is in 1987, turning down an offer to blurb an all-male sci-fi anthology. http://bit.ly/1LLC0t8 pic.twitter.com/n3wgHQgDgu

That letter has all of the negative qualities it describes.
Nailed it!
I wonder who made THAT mistake - the book has been constantly in print for almost 50 years! I read that book nearly 45 years ago and knew it was a work of genius (but I was only 16...)
I have read several of her books, and had to read them multiple times, they were that good. I have not heard of this one, but will be looking for it!
That's unfair.
Now which SF dumbass editor of the period might have written this?
Probably not a book editor specializing in SF; there were relatively few in 1968. TLHOD was ultimately published as a hardcover by Walker. I would guess this was from an editor at another hardcover house that, like Walker, didn't have an SF line as such. But I could be wrong.
She very nicely omitted the name of the editor and publishing house, because ... why rub it in? http://www.ursulakleguin.com/Reject.html .
I will just leave this here.
