    Faced with closure, a 70-year-old Pennsylvania drive-in theater went "all-retro" w/ classic films on 35mm. Now it's profitable again. 🎞️📽️🎞️

    Found Thief of Bagdag 1924 airing on 6/30 @ 9. Really enjoy the talkie remake too with Superior antagonist Conrad Veidt and Sabu. Douglas shows off his athleticism fully in this silent.

    What are the odds? I go to Austinite Clifford Antone’s cousin’s place in LA- Cat&Fiddle- for stand-up comedy night, where I find comedienne Amanda Cohen telling side-splitting jokes abt being a ‘Gentile’ on a blind date w/a Mormon. Priceless!

    By the time Douglas Fairbanks & Mary Pickford arrived back at Pickfair, after the debut of THE MARK OF ZORRO (1920) at the Beverly Hills Hotel (because had not yet built either the Egyptian or Chinese Theaters) he was in a restless mood.

    Shows what critics know. The Mark of Zorro with Douglas Fairbanks was a smash hit that inspired the Robin Hood films to follow and many comic book superheroes, most notably Batman. (Oh, and pet peeve - the Douglas Fairbanks who was Zorro and Robin Hood was not the Jr.)

    THE MARK OF ZORRO (1920) was previewed at the Beverly Hills Hotel. When it was over the critics went away without much cheering and Douglas Fairbanks was left with a feeling of depression and failure.
