The problem with funding for cancer research. There are rapidly increasing numbers of grant applications to the NCI, but no real increases to the budget. That has resulted in unacceptably low paylines and success rates. There is an urgent need for more funding by congress!pic.twitter.com/vRdyf3QbMd

Also from 2000 to 2013 NCI funding was decimated... what progress was lost, what promising work went unfunded, what talented young researchers did we lose? https://ihatebreastcancer.wordpress.com/2016/09/04/the-biggest-challenges-facing-metastatic-breast-cancer-research/?fbclid=IwAR0v2htLPzHHELaHRGSaXVnZTxbONutwQtslxNGDcU5TZn6vTo5GDcLC8G4 …pic.twitter.com/gWEfcUmRN6

I guess us patient advocates have to hold more bake sales and 5k walks so we can get more, or at least not less, research funded. In the meantime at a golf course in Florida....

Do future medical researchers in university realize they eventually have to spend so much time finding $ sources & writing/managing grants so they can do their jobs? What other career requires that?

Makes you wonder if we get research predicated on what the researcher thought had a reasonable chance of being funded vs. original work that is either too complex for would be funders to grasp or will take so long to carry out that the researcher can’t afford the risk
