I tweeted about some ridiculous takes comparing male circumcision to the Holocaust back in July and there's still male anti-circumcision activists yelling at me about it, even though I'm on their fucking side (ban all medically unnecessary circumcisions)

Are they benefits that are only possible by doing it before the person can consent? Or can we let adults make that informed choice for their own bodies?
-
It is much more difficult and painful to do it as an adult with much longer recovery time. It doesn’t happen often unless required to correct various urinary and erectile issues. Part of being a parent is making these decisions for kids that they can’t make for themselves.
-
Not sure why circ is put in another category of parental parenting choices than say orthodontics
-
I consented to my braces at age 9. Babies can't consent to having parts of their body irreversibly chopped off. Longer recovery & more pain seems a fair trade-off for informed consent. But anyways I'm gonna mute this thread because I don't feel like arguing about it, take care

“Parts of their body lopped off” is very strange way to describe it. Its literally just a thin layer of extra skin. Same as the ear lobe. Ppl have a lot of emotions in the sexual organs but really they’re no different than any other body part. But to each their own
-
By the way peeps, 9 year olds can’t consent either tho obvi more understanding than an infant. And I wouldn’t think pain/suffering would be “worth it” but there’s no wrong answer here. it’s interesting how much ppl have invested in certain body parts. Circ=sexual violation

Medical benefits would have to be weighed against complications from a medically unnecessary surgery, though.
-
The benefits are marginal enough that either decision for/against is reasonable. Rate of complication is extremely low- it’s minimally invasive. Both the AAP and AUA lay out the evidence pro and con in good detail

If you're talking about the HIV study that was extremely bad science.
-
No I am not. I’ve quoted the AUA and AAP several times on this thread. At this point you may look it up yourself and take it up with these orgs. Why do people keep acting as if this is some kind of mass torturing ritual of infant boys.

I mean, perhaps, but it should ultimately be one's own choice whether they get the tip of their prick snipped, not when they have no understanding of anything happening.
