More than a decade ago we introduced the Charge or Release Bill, which would mandate release if not charged within 24 hours. Time to finally pass it.
Update: As of this morning, 295 NYers in Manhattan alone have been languishing in detention for 24+ hours, deprived of their right to quickly see a judge and needlessly placed at increased risk of contracting COVID-19. That is the problem, looters aren’t arrested or stopped but protestors are. The police are letting the looting happen , not to mention the looters are not interested in the agenda of the protest but taking advantage of the situation.
