    Ds won 2/3 of all Senate seats. In most years, that leads to huge gains.

    It’s tempting to think of 2018 as an across-the-board “Blue Wave.” But a fact that seems quite relevant now: Republicans *gained* two Senate seats. And, the Trump Loyalist count has risen even more (no McCain, Flake, Corker, etc.)

    He was perfectly lucid several years ago and most of his gaffes were made completely coherently.

    Such a smart piece: Joe Biden's verbal stumbles have voters worried about his mental fitness. Would they feel differently if they understood those "gaffes" as the byproduct of a stutter he's still fighting?

    Clinton did very well with black voters in her primary, and people claim she lost because of low black turnout.

    Candidates may not have attacked Buttigieg by name but let's be clear: Booker + Harris saying "The Obama Coalition" was meant as a reminder that if a candidate lacks support among black voters it isn't a small thing, it's a death nail to their electability case

    Whenever I hear stuff like this, I say, “Shut the hell up. It’s OUR country, not yours!”

    I think the pendelum is finally starting to swing from too much Coastal 'Splaining to too much Flyover 'Splaining. Having spent four-fifths of my life in Kentucky, I find this whole flyover inferioirty complex schtick exceedingly tedious.

    Losing a party-switcher is never a "big blow" because the fact of switching reveals he was never reliable to count in the Democratic caucus in the first place. An extra win to make up for him was always needed.

    This is a big blow to Democratic hopes of overcoming the GOP's extreme gerrymander & winning a majority in 2020. Before this, Dems only needed to flip three GOP-held seats, two of which backed Clinton & one that backed Trump by a modest margin. Now they need one more flip

    I am 1,000,000% certain that HE is the Democrat that went to the Republicans and said he wanted to switch parties. He already had a conservative voting record in the NJ legislature, and pledged to not vote for Pelosi for speaker.

    Yes, but nobody KNOWS what is actually electable, so the endeavor is pointless.

    Popular opinion that is unpopular with the people I follow on Twitter — it’s very reasonable for primary voters to prioritize electability.

    2016 was a deeply awful primary because the outcome had been predetermined by party elites several years in advance. This bred a justifiable sense of grievance among Sanders supporters; it also broke the brains of a lot of smart Clinton supporters who felt compelled to justify it

    2018 was only terrible because they already HAD so many seats already, and still won 2/3 of them!

    With current political coalitions, there's no such thing as a great Senate map for Democrats given the (deliberate) bias of the Senate toward rural states. Rather, there are *OK* maps for Democrats (e.g. 2022), terrible ones (e.g. 2018) and various gradients in between.

    i won't push major policy in my first two years because i won't have the political capital in my second two years i'll be running for reelection so policy must go on hold in my second term i will need to focus on helping elect my successor but in my last six months I PROMISE.

    My 7th graders were discussing lowering the voting age today and one argued that 16-years-olds wouldn't take it seriously or make careful decisions. Another kid responded, "If adults make such good decisions then how did we end up with Trump?"
