Station execs now on notice: every time you air an all white tv ad you’re making Steve Price happy. Something to think about.

I think these people are not angry because they are silenced/cancelled. Factually, they are not - they dominate Australia media. They are mad because more people don't take their views as automatically relevant or important. They no longer enjoy the privilege of assumed authority

Because white men have always occupied the centre, some seem to think if they can't have an opinion on everything, this is some kind of oppression. It isn't. There was always other centres, other lives, others opinions in which you were irrelevant (as I am in others matters).

I can tell you as a woman from a minority group that it has never occurred to be, nor do I think it necessary, that I must be heard on everything. It seem entirely appropriate to be told, by those closer to the issue, to shut up and move on.

Okay, this is MINDBLOWING. Who do we need to pray or make offerings to in order to have an Australian version???

If we don't tackle discrimination - both in getting a job and staying in a job - nothing will change. Every disabled person has a story about discrimination at work. Non-disabled people are often surprised about that. Listen to us and end discrimination at work.

The unemployment rate for people with disabilities is more than twice the national figure. Barriers to employment will be a key focus of the Jobs and Skills summit. The Social Services Minister @AmandaRishworth joins @RNBreakfast soon. Listen live: ab.co/2GqJiZo

Nobody hears "building standards" and thinks, ooh, what an exciting topic. But basic accessibility standards should be built into all new homes, because they create a home that's liveable for everyone – and the NSW govt has decided, nah we won't do that

We lost so much with the closure of the Centre for Youth Literature (artshub.com.au/news/opinions-) as this thread attests. I wonder if can bring this up while helping to develop a new National Cultural Policy?! ☺️

The loss of the CYL and the Inky awards (including a fun program we used to partner with called Story Camp) is endlessly disappointing. Young people deserve to have ongoing resources and access to literature, art & opportunities such as these.

Pretty sure anyone from would happily go on record about the impact the loss of CYL has had, as would who established the Inkys and !

Would only point out that we used to have the #InkyAwards, where teenagers chose their favourite books of the year - but since we lost the Centre for Youth Literature we lost that too … 🤷‍♀️ theguardian.com/books/2022/aug

Is it universal to watch one season of a French Canadian police drama and be under the impression you can now speak basic French? Asking for me.

lol even the guardian's dream budget doesn't have increased arts funding

Scrapping the stage three tax cuts would save $243bn. This could provide adequate funding for public schools, raise the Jobseeker rate, or pay for nuclear submarines. How would you spend it? collab w/ @AmyRemeikis theguardian.com/australia-news

Creating a simple costume is bonding. Book Week is an occasion and shows kids how important we think children's books, libraries, librarians and authors are. Defy the competitive element, that's basic parenting. Don't dump on the dedication of orgs like the CBCA. Book Day Rules.

A headshot of our current CEO Jesse Garlik, he is smiling at the camera, seated at a white table and wearing a green long sleeve shirt over a white T shirt, and dark jeans.
A white screen shot of Jesse's official statement: “Being away from family over the past couple of years due to the pandemic has been difficult, but I have been constantly inspired by the resilience and persistence of the Express Media staff and community. I am so proud of the projects, programs and publications we have delivered in this time through the hard work of the team and board, and the talent we have seen emerge in our community as a result. I am sad to be leaving, I have loved this role and what it has given to my career, but I am also excited to see what the next CEO brings to the organisation and how they will continue to foster young artists, writers, and storytellers.”

Social media have made me ashamed of my own capacity to learn Despite the "I was today years old" trope & the constant calls to "do the work"/"educate yourself", the Discourse is a posture of always-already knowing. Needing to learn is framed as a moral failing

Please understand: advances towards “back to normal” largely involve the reversal of accessibility measures. Telehealth appointments? Accessibility. Remote work? Accessibility. Widespread delivery and curbside pickup options? Accessibility. “Normal” isn’t good enough.

First day back on board at life/work after surgery last week. Have decided the only way to approach this is to tell myself I am cosplaying as a Real Girl with a Real Job to trick myself into playing the part. Might get myself a cup of tea to really pull these shenanigans off.

Twitter is a toilet. Transphobes are weaponising hate and brigading using bots to make it look like trans rights have no support. In reality TERFs are a tiny group of cis straight women and men, a couple of thousand at most, who hide behind a human shield of lesbians and gay men.

Congratulations to Priya, Nades, Kopika and Tharnicaa who, after many anxious long years, have finally been granted permanent visas. We must not forget that there are so many others just like them who should be able to call Australia home.
