    and both produced up to ~8" of rain across , but Ida's flooding was much worse than Henri. Why? Part of it was saturated soil. However, compare the peak hourly rain rates. If 1.75"/h is really the cutoff, comparing peak hourly rates tells the story! Ida >>> Henri

    is forecast by National Center to become a major hurricane tomorrow. If it does, it would be 3rd of Atlantic season to date (Grace & Ida were also majors). 5 years in satellite era (1966 onwards) have had 3 major hurricanes by 9/4: 1969, 1996, 2004, 2005, 2008.

    UPDATE: Mullica Hill, NJ Tornado rated EF-3 with peak winds up 150 mph. This is only the 5th F/EF-3 on record in New Jersey. The last one was in 1990 in Somerset County.
