Fun fact, the burden is already on the taxpayers. You either acquire healthcare via your employer (you contribute too), or out of pocket (you still contribute), or via a government program (you did contribute to or are economically unable to).

You're right, shifting the burden doesn't make it more affordable. It's actually the cost savings brought by shifting the administration to the government that makes healthcare more affordable. Though I don't think that's the distinction you were trying to make.
