The escalating violence from this weekend and today against civilians strikes at the heart of Hong Kong’s vibrant democracy. I am watching these developments closely and stand with the pro-democracy protestors.

Last night the Vice Chancellor of the Chinese University of Hong Kong tried to persuade the police to stop showering tear gas bombs to the students. However, the police simply continued their attack with the Vice Chancellor among the students. The police were worse than mobs!pic.twitter.com/ztu8drRQ3r

Prof Rocky Tuan was tear gassed ON THE WAY to negotiate with police. He later went police station to negotiate with higher officials, reported to have come to an agreement, yet frontline police did not stop their fire at all and water cannoned the students.pic.twitter.com/nc61zbA8ec

Thanks Leader Hoyer! As the situation now more life-threatening than ever for Hong Kongers, we hope the Senate will honour the bipartisan support for HKHRDA. Pls help persuade them w/ your network. Millions of lives are waiting for this critical decision from the Senate!pic.twitter.com/BABdJvnNP0
