Unconscious bias is a measurable thing. Stupid heuristics installed in your head by society are keeping you from making the best decisions. They are keeping you from recognizing the best people across the board and having the best team.

And I mean *everyone*. We all have to work to overcome unconscious bias. It's worth the work to make good technical decisions and business decisions and treat people with respect.

As an engineer I noticed attending mixed technical/management customer meetings that I got maximum technical credibility by not wearing a tie.

Looking a bit less buttoned-down and more practical does seem to make people more inclined to think "engineer". But wearing a skirt doesn't suddenly make me less of an engineer. It does make me more likely to say "it has POCKETS!", though.
