Healthcare professionals demanded we drastically reduce the jail population, so we listened. On Jan 21, the SF jail population was 1,238. On March 4, when the emergency was declared, it was 1,097. Yesterday, it was 766. Meanwhile, crime rates continue to decrease in SF.

The jail where I work, in SF, has been ensuring everyone had someplace to go and if homeless referring to Transitional Housing and hotel vouchers. The photo is what is planned for those who were already unhoused.

Yes, it's necessary to provide space for people that are unhoused. What is the purpose of the site? To surveil? To detain? I don't think those amenities will draw people there... Hotels are empty! We need to use all available space.
