Layla, I'd like to see a central scheme with manufacturers bidding for mass supply of 10" semi rugged Chromebooks. 4G capable. Networks can bid for data SIMs and create a supply of laptops for loan via schools. Best value, set standards, easy to manage by most LA's IT functions.

The answer would be to support the wider opening of schools. We should be aiming for a them to be fully open from the start of September and keep them open.

I need to clarify something here ... whilst the scheme was put in place by the Government, it’s actually administered by the local authorities. I put in a FoM to Newcastle City Council to see how many schools had applied for devices for disadvantaged kids since 01 March ... zero.
-
So the question is ... why aren’t the schools applying? The resource is there. But not one school in Newcastle has applied for devices for disadvantaged children. Evidenced below:pic.twitter.com/tGKRA4pbSH

Personally... I don't think the laptops will be issued any time soon.I would suggest that Schofield and Simms Booklets can be used across KS2 as a starting point. Secondaries may need to get some primary teachers to work with them next year to bridge gaps in KS3.

With a max of 15 in a class then there just aren't enough classrooms or teachers. So, they either stay with restricted numbers or scrap distancing rules. How did GW think it would work? Why not abandon the year and restart in same year group when safe. i.e. year 5 stays as year 5
